GROWING IN THE DARK
The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts

Curated by David Samuel Stern
Phenomena in absolute darkness—the underground, the internal body—often relate to elements that need to be eliminated at first glance: illicit activities, decomposition, or stealthily progressing diseases. Yet such things can also ignite revelations: how to survive a toxic future, the nurturing of soil for subsequent generations, the appreciation of essential intestinal microflora, and the acknowledgment of the absurdity of the universe. “Growing in the Dark” examines how we can approach such obscurities of the bodily/physical realm.
