North Fork Report

The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts

Kawahara installed his 40 feet long scroll drawing, White Noise, in EFA’s conference room. The extraordinary piece was created at the EFA North Fork Residency in March 2023. The epic work presents a cryptic narrative connecting EFA’s Manhattan studios to the deep silence and profound dark of Long Island’s North Fork.

Inspired by the isolated environment, Kawahara incorporated the nature and surroundings of the North Fork into his new drawings.  The EFA North Fork Residency is a partnership program with the Potato Farm Project. Open to EFA Member artists and fellows, the month-long retreat allows artists to work, write and think in a calm environment by the sea.
